Theinterference incoexisting wireless local areanetworks (WLANs), canbeviewed asalayered space-time (LST) structure, inwhichthenumberofaccess points (APs)is equal tothenumberoftransmit antennas. Thus, theinterference that iscaused byAPsfromdifferent vendors is equivalent totheinterference between transmit antennas in LSTarchitecture. Thisanalogy canbefurther extended to theWLANsreceiver strategy, sothat receiver structures derived forLSTarchitectures canbedirectly applied tomitigate against theinterference between vendors. Therefore, inthis paper, wepropose theLSTarchitecture receivers in thephysical layer (PHY)tomitigate against theinterference incoexisting WLANs.Toimprove thebiterror rate(BER) performance further, across-layer design inboththePHY andmediumaccess control (MAC)layers isalso proposed. Itisshownthat theproposed receivers demonstrate superior performance tothestandard receiver forWLANs.
