higino.correiaadei.uminho.pt Abstract A wireless smart-suit network formonitoring body kinetics, heartandrespiratory rateduringhidrocinesiotherapy sessions ispresented. Sensing modulescomposedby 3-axis accelerometers, 3-axis magnetometers andinterface electronics areusedtomonitor thebodykinetics. Heartrateismeasured usinganearclipinfrared sensorandrespiratory frequency is measured withinductance plethysmography. Thesensor network isintegrated inaswimmingsuitanddataistransmitted inreal timeto a basestation usinga 2.4GHz RF transceiver. Measurements oftherotation ofshoulders, hipsandspineare performed witharesolution ofless than2degrees. A newMAC protocol forwireless sensing andactuation, LPRT protocol, implemented inMICAzmotesisused. Someofthecharacteristics oftheproposed protocol arelowpowerconsumption, real-time support andlossintolerant traffic. Theprotocol usescontention- freeoperation andretransmission schemeandisveryflexible and hashighthroughput efficiency.
