We studied anewapplication system for RFIDtechnology toenhance driving safety, withtheaim ofreducing traffic accidents nearintersections. (1), (2) We investigated anexperimental system that senses the presence andposition ofpedestrians equipped withan active tag, that sends sensed data toanon-board device ofavehicle nearthat position, andnotifies thedriver. Sincea pedestrian's pattern ofmovementatan intersection iscomplicated, itisdifficult todesign a perfect motion-pattern modelfromthebeginning. For thisreason, we developed a basic movement-pattern modelfirst, andgradually develop this modelintoa practical movement-pattern model. Inthispaper, we report onaconceptual image ofourexperimental system andthebasic movement-pattern models forpedestrians developed fortheexperimental system.
