Message from the MASCOTS 2011 General Chair
Wentong Cai · 2011
A warm welcome to MASCOTS 2011, the 19th IEEE International Symposium on Modeling, Analysis, and Simulation of Computer and Telecommunication Systems. It is the first time the MASCOTS symposium has taken place in Singapore, a vibrant and cosmopolitan city that offers brimming culture diversity, a multiplicity of arts and architecture, and the unique combination of its tropical nature, shopping, and dining. With so many things to see and to do, I hope you all have a memorable stay during the conference. MASCOTS 2011 is being held at the Raffles Hotel. Built in the old French Renaissance style, the Raffles Hotel is one of the most well-known hotels in the world and is also one of Singapore’s most famous landmarks. In its more than 120-year history, the Raffles Hotel has provided legendary service to many distinguished guests. Casuarina Suites, where our sessions will take place, are named after Somerset Maugham’s volume of short stories, The Casuarina Tree. Maugham was a regular visitor to the hotel. The Bar and Billiard Room, our lunch venue during the conference, is most famous for being the spot where the last tiger in Singapore was killed as it cowered under a billiard table. The two and a half day conference consists of technical sessions concerning performance measurement and evaluation of computer architecture, systems, and computer networks as well as two keynote speeches. The first keynote will be given by Dr. Hai Jin from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (China) on “Challenges of a Virtualized System: Performance Point of View.” The second keynote will be given by Dr. George Riley, from the Georgia Institute of Technology (USA) on “Massive-Scale Parallel Network Simulations, Past, Present and Future.” We hope that you will enjoy this exciting program that we have arranged for you.
