Cognitive radio (CR) is an innovative solution toward the efficient use of spectrum. In this article, we focus on analyzing, modeling, and obtaining the cumulative interference produced by the distributed constant density cognitive users located both within and outside a licensed spectrum network in the case where the primary receivers (PRs) are located at a worst-case position. In this work, the expected interference is derived from and compared with the probability of misdetecting primary beacon signals transmitted from the licensed spectrum user (transmitter and receiver), to perform handshaking and use vacant spectrum bands.
