Online entertainment isnowpossible athomeby meansofaplethora ofubiquitous services thatcanbeprovided basedonwireless technologies suchas,forinstance, thecommon Wi-FiIEEE802.11g network technology. Yetascarce attention hasbeendevoted tostudytheimpact ofwireless MAC layer design choices onthethenative Internet transport protocols (e.g., TCP,UDP)during thedistribution ofin-house entertainment contents. We showthatthecurrent setting ofthemaximum numberofretransmissions andthequeuesize intheIEEE802.11 protocol notnecessarily corresponds totheoptimal choice inthis context. Basedontheobtained results, wealsoprovide directions inordertofind themostefficient MAC layer setting.
