On the Decomposition of Large Communication Networks for Hierarchical Control

In the implementation of hierarchical schemes for the adaptive control of large communication networks, decomposition of the overall network into node clusters and assignment of a supervisor for each cluster are of central importance. A formulation of the decomposi- tion problem as a mathematical optimization problem is given and an algorithm for solution is presented.
