Bárbara Sánchez, R. Guillermo, Gregorio Gómez-Jarabo García · 2006

In this work we present the methodology and the characteristics developed for the implementation of the hardware and software for cashier machine keyboard using Braille code, which eventually can be used in automatic cashiers for blind person. We report here the results obtained from each one of the tests performed between the hardware and the software that have been developed in order to be able to execute the operation and coupling among them during the data transfer from serial to the visual interface. I INTRODUCCION Nowadays, the performance of the blind population in their everyday life encounter severe limitations and it can not be realized with the same ease and autonomy as for the remainder of the population. In order to be able to perform with more normality the majority of the daily activities, the blind people or those with sight difficulties, have within their reach some specific tools – Braille code being the most common example. It is here where we involve the banking technology using the instruments and/or tools that there are used to handle in order to make easier for them the access to certain information and services, in this case, a banking service. One of the keys of the success of the ATMS is: the ease to find them almost everywhere and the facility to access with the only use of a card, that contain a chip or a magnetic strip which offers a good level of security in the operations. A purpose of this work is taking advantage of this technology and with some innovations (implementing inside the conventional thing something out of the traditional staff) to satisfy the needs of a part of the community that due to a physical disability is not taken into account. We developed a keyboard with Braille code adapted to an experimental system that receives serially the data in code Braille and that contains the audio guide to assist al blind user to carry out a banking operation and also make him able to select the impression in code Braille of the performed operation.
