Processors for Specific Applications

John M. Huggins · 1985

Processors, for specific applications, are important beneficiaries, and in some cases catalysts, of advances in design and process technology. They demonstrate by their achievements how the analog/digital, bipolar/CMOS and hardwired/programmable technology tradeoffs advance product objectives. The processors to be described will add performance and value to such apparently diverse products as Winchester disks, local area networks for communicating office equipment, next generation digital facsimile products, and subscriber telephone apparatus.
