TheDesign ofaWeb-Sensor NetworkforEnvironmental Monitoring andRemote Control Applications byDataFusion Techniques
Claudio DeCapual, Stefano DeFalco · 2007
This paper proposes aninnovative design ofaweb-sensor network forenvironmental monitoring oftheelectromagnetic pollution. A remote control application allows toprocess acquired dataandavailable information byanoriginal datafusion procedure. Theaimistoverify thecompliance oftheexposure levels to electromagnetic field withthelimits established fromlaw. The measurement system isaconfigurable network ofwireless andsmart web-sensors distributed alonganurbanarea.Theimplemented sensing units measure theelectromagnetic field inhighandlow frequency ranges and,byGeneral Packet RadioService (GPRS) communication, acquired dataaretransmitted toWEBpages. By meansofanoriginal algorithm thewhole areaisdivided inseveral local zones, whereanequal numberofsensors hasthetaskto monitor specific zones. Theclustering algorithm usesenvironmental andtopographical information inorder toconfigure thenetwork and themonitoring map. So,thenumber andsize ofthezones arevariable according tothedesired resolution. A proposed Statistical Model allows toestimate thereliability curveovertimeofeachsensor in order togetknowledge onitsoperating state. Starting fromthe available information, aremote workstation performs thedatafusion procedure. Alarmandwarning occurrences aresingled out. Afinal report showsthezoneswhichrequire greater attention sotoplan suitable interventions onthearea. Quality indexes provide indication onreliability andconsistency oftheresult.
