Photoconductive semiconductor switches (PCSS's), such Optical Trigger as optically-trigge red GaAs switches, havebeen developed foravariety ofapplications. Suchswitches exhibit unique properties asaconsequence oflock-on, a phenomenon associated withthebistable switching of these devices. Inthis paper, lock-on isexplained interms ofcollective impact ionization. Furthermore, theeffect of defects on theperformance of thesedevices is investigated.
