Teamster: A Transparent Distributed Shared Memory for Cluster Symmetric Mu1 ti processors

Jyh‐Biau Chang, Ce-Kuen Shieh · 2001

Teanister is a transparent DSM system built on a cluster oj symmetric x86 multiprocessors connected with I OOMb Fast Ethernet. Teamster has a hybrid thread architecture that progranimer can parallelize their application without concerning the underlying hardware configuration. The Global Memory Iniage of Teamster provides a truly global s and synchronization objects are put into GMI. Because we declure and initialize these data and objects in the beginning, the linker of the operating system helps us forming this c need explicit annotations to propagate the niodfication of global static variables. With the support oj hybrid thread architecture and Global Memory Image, Teanister can provide a truly transparent DSM in the cluster of SMP computers. More than that, the overhead oj creating more application threads and supporting Global Memory Image don’t affect the pet$ormance of Teamster in our measurement.
