Abstract: This paper provides a survey of possible solutions for intrusion detection system (IDS) against DoS attacks. In a Denial of Service (DoS) attack, legitimate users are prevented from access to services or network resources. Distributed DoS (DDoS) occurs if a group of attackers coordinate in DoS. When a DDoS attack occurs in a mobile ad hoc network (MANET), the attacker compromises a number of mobile nodes, which can follow different mobility patterns and have different speeds. Any node under attack in ad hoc network exhibits an anomalousbehavior called the malicious behavior. We first analyze the main vulnerabilities in the mobile ad hoc networks. Then we discuss the security criteria of the mobile ad hoc network and present the main attack types that exist in it. Finally we survey the current security solutions for the mobile ad hoc network.
