Impulse Impedance Tests onLaboratory ModelEarthElectrode
H. Ahmad, N. Isal · 2005
The investigation wascarried outwiththe purpose ofobtaining moreinformation about electric discharges insandy media. A cylindrical setup was chosen forimpulse testing ofearth rods tosimulate the voltage gradients inthefield whenlightning propagates toearth rod. Thetemperature images atthesurface of thesandandrodwerecaptured during theexperiment. Thesurface temperature increased slightly higher with theincreased ofvoltages. TheCDEGSvalidates the increase ofelectric field higher attheedgeofthe cylindrical test cell. Andalsoforthefirst time, the conduction current indrysandwasobserved. Itwould beexpected that thecurrent produced indrysandis duetosoil ionization andalsothermal effect dueto charge movement inthesoil, since there areairvoids inthedrysand.
