BLIND EQUALIZATION USING FOURTH ORDER CUMULANTZ

Boaz Porat, B. Friedlander · 1990

imize these functions with respect to the equalizer parameters. Typically, the adaptation is performed by gradient-type algorithms such as the LMS or one of its numerous variations. This paper describes three new algorithms for blind equalization of digital communication channels of the QAM type. The algorithms use the 4th order cumulants of the symbol sequence to explicitly estimate the channel impulse response. The estimated impulse response is used in turn to construct a hear zero-forcing equalizer. The algorithms are evaluated by some simulations and compared in terms of their computational complexity. The present paper continues the work of [l]. Here we present three new algorithms for channel identification. The algorithms are presented ill Section 3, after some necessary background material in Section 2. In Section 4 the performance of the proposed algorithms is tested by an example.
