Modeling ofthearchitectural studies forthe PANDADAT system

W. Kuehn · 2007

We present design studies oftheDAQ andtrigger system(DAT)forthePANDA detector proposed forthenew FAIRfacility atGSI.Thebroadphysics programofPANDA requires anovelDAT system abletocopewithhighinteraction rates (upto2*10A7/s) andtotrigger onvarious eventtopologies simultaneously. We usedSystemCasmodeling platform to investigate acandidate architecture forthePANDA DAT system. We simulated thebehavior ofthecomplete system withsimplified modelsofallthecomponents. Themodelcovers detector buffers connected viaEthernet tofarmsofcomputing nodesconstituting twofiltering levels andaneventbuilding level. We present results frommodeling illustrating theimpact ofthekeyarchitectural choices andparameters ontheoverall performance.
