Re: Excursion to visit Tanjong Beach, Sentosa

The Visual Art students have been studying an art form that combines elements of 2D and 3D design. The next step in their learning is a fully 3D project. Sand sculpture provides the opportunity to address challenges of proportion, scale and public siting that is unavailable in a classroom environment. Although some valuable exploration is being done in books and online, nothing replaces handson creation of largescale sculpture. With this in mind we are planning an excursion to Tanjong Beach, Sentosa. This clean and monitored beach provides the perfect venue to create the sculptures the students have designed in studio. It will also be an excellent site to attract an audience until the wind, rain and waves bring a natural eraser to the work. This excursion will be of significant benefit to the students by providing them with the opportunity to experience new challenges in a unique and public setting. New understandings of media, composition and communication are some of the expected outcomes of this field trip, all of which should benefit the students in successfully meeting their course requirements.
