In thispaper,we proposea regionbased segmentation technique using anewsimilarity measure knownaspixelblockfuzzysimilarity. Usingthis measure, animageisdivided into pixel blocks and segmentation isperformed byaggregating contiguous blocks having similar neighborhood. Ourmethod isfirst usedtointeractively delineate a region viaregion growing. Theresults obtained arecomparable andin somecasesbetter thanthose fromaclassical region growing technique. Ourscheme hasalsobeenadapted forautomatic global imagesegmentation. Results show that ourapproach constantly provides fewersegments compared towatershed segmentation. Eventhough over-segmentation isobservable atsomeedges, the proposed approach isgenerally suitable indelineating themainregions orobjects inanimage.
