Integration of Amplify and Forward Relays in an OFDM network

In this paper we study the integration of Amplify and Forward relays in an OFDM network at a center frequency of 5.3GHz. We compare the performance of the relay link in a metropolitan area network in downlink to the direct link between the base station and the mobile station. The receive antenna of the relay is placed on the rooftop and the transmit antenna at street level. This setup offers enough isolation between the antennas to allow forwarding of the received signal within the cyclic prefix of the OFDM symbol, which we study as well. We show that relays offer significant gains and give recommendations on how to integrate Amplify and Forward relays in an OFDM network.
