Collaborative Situation Assessment

Daniel D. Corkill, Amherst Amherst · 2005

Blackboard systems areanideal architecture forsit- uation assessment involving large datavolumes andheteroge- neous dataandknowledge sources. However, theadhoccon- fidence andbelief values usedintraditional blackboard applica- tions hasledtocriticism oftheblackboard approach andspawned efforts tocombine collaborative blackboard-system techniques withmoreprincipled graphical-network representations. We discuss twoimportant collaborative-assessment challenge areas: 1)principled blackboard representations and2)principled inte- gration ofcontributions madebyindependent knowledge-source entities. Thecomplexity ofthese challenges ishighlighted using a very simple assessment scenario.
