Stenograph for the Blind

M.P. Beddoes · 1989

This presentation describes a machine called STENEX, which is intended to be used as a stenograph machine for the blind. The blind stenographer can enter material very fast, and voice feedback of the input material is provided to ensure accurate entry. All that is entered is stored in computer memory and it can be recalled, through a search of memory, with voice output. The text record can be turned into written output if required. An im portant contribution of the work is the redefinition of the function of the normal type-in keys. Redefinition allows one to input stenograph phonemes using a standard keyboard.
