Imagesegmentation hasanimportant rolein imageprocessing and thespeedof thesegmentation algorithm may becomea drawbackforsomeapplications. Thisstudyanalyzes theruntimeperformances ofsome variations of the Recursive Shortest SpanningTree Algorithm (RSST)and proposessimplebut effective modifications onthese algorithms toimprove their speeds. In addition, theeffect oflinkweight costfunction ontherun timeperformance andthesegmentation quality isexamined. Forfurther improvement intheruntimeperformance ofthe fastest sequential method, a distributed RSSTalgorithm is also proposed andevaluated.
