Real-timecorrelationandmatchedfiltering havebecomekey processesinmodernspreadspectrumcommunicationsystems.Thesepowerful correlation techniqueswereusuallyperformed withthehelpof SAW-devices. Althoughthese analogcomponentshavereacheda hightechnical standard, digitalimplementations of spreadspectrumcorrelatorsandmatchedfiltersbecome increasingly interestingas progressin microelectronics continues. Theintentionof thepresentpaperis to examineif and to whatdegreeSAW-components in spread-spectrum systemscanadvantageously be replacedby digitalCMOSgatearraycorrelators andhowfarthissemicustomdesignapproachcan improvetheoverallsystemperformance.
