A Survey of Data Compression Techniques in Sensor Network
Shailaja Y. Kanawade, Dinesh Suresh Bhadane · 2014
In this paper a survey is done on various data compression techniques in wireless sensor network. Data compression seeks to reduce the number of bits used to store or transmit information. A critical issue of power saving in wireless sensor networks arises because sensor nodes are powered by batteries which cannot generally changed or recharged. Data compression is the general term for the various algorithms and programs developed to address problem of energy inefficiency in WSN. Categories of data compression are: Lossless and Lossy. A more precise focus is on reducing much number of bits and having high value of compression ratio with better energy efficiency.
