Pulsed ACK: Improving Robustness of TCP for
Hiroshi Shigenot · 2007
TheTransmission Control Protocol (TCP)proves degraded performance attheenvironment whichhasbandwidth asymmetry, since theuplink isfilled withACK packets. Inorder tosolve theissue, we propose a TCP option, PulsedACK.To applythisoption, TCP brings downthenumberofACKsand allows thereceiver tosendACKsatintervals. We consider the numberofdatapackets acknowledged byanACK,d,toachieve these effects, andusing this value, thereceiver adjusts theinterval ofsending them.Thesender alsocontrols theincrement ofcwnd atthereceipt ofanACK packet sothatitincreases by1every RTT.Thesimulation results showthatTCP withthePulsed ACK option gains1.85timeshigher throughput comparedto TCPwithout theoption.
