Thispaperpresents anapplication oftheBees Algorithm (BA)totheoptimisation ofneural networks forwooddefect detection. Thisnovel population-based search algorithm mimics thenatural foraging behaviour ofswarmsofbees.Initsbasic version, thealgorithm performs a kindofneighbourhood searchcombined withrandomsearch. Following abrief description ofthe algorithm, thepapergives theresults obtained forthe wooddefect identification problemdemonstrating the efficiency androbustness ofthenewalgorithm.
