TheUHF partial discharge measurement technique isunder research inorder tobeusedforthe detection, identification andlocalization ofdischarging defects within a powertransformer. However, it requires installed dielectric windowson the transformer tankfortheplacement oftheUHFsensors, afeature notavailable inall transformers especially old onesthat haveahigher risk offailure. Therefore, itis necessary todevelop UHF sensors that canbeusedin thecaseoftransformers without dielectric windows. In this papersuchasensor initsearly design stages is studied, whichcanbeinserted inatransformer from oneofits valves.
