Theconceptual design stage isanearly stage in thedesign process thatiswellsuited todetermining the functional interaction between different subsystems. Inthe conceptual design stage onegenerally comesupwitha modelwithtoomanyparameters andtoolittle knowledge to estimate appropriate parameter values. Modelsimplification andreduction techniques canbeapplied toreduce the numberofparameters andthemodelorder. Theparameters inthisreduced ordermodelarea combination ofthe parameters oftheoriginal model. A Bondgraphisdomainindependent, allowsfree composition, andisefficient forclassification andanalysis ofmodels, allowing rapid determination ofvarious types of acceptability orfeasibility ofcandidate designs. Thiscan sharply reduce thetimeneeded foranalysis ofdesigns that areinfeasible orotherwise unattractive. 12
