Commercial indicator lampglowdischarge tubesinthesubnormal glowmodeexhibit variable fre- quency tunedfiltervideoresponse tooptical andmicrowave radiation. Sensitivity tooptical radiation canbe particularly increased byusingsuchdevices inthesubnormal rather thanabnormal glow.Thesephenomena are discussed intermsofphysical electronics andanequivalent circuit. Acomparison ismadeofabnormal andsub- normal glowmodeproperties. Itishopedthatthismodelcanleadtoglowdischarge lampdesign forspecific circuit applications involving subnormal glowmodecharacteristics.
