A Re-Analysis of the Axiomatic Foundations of Collaborative Filtering and the Case-Based Reasoning Approach to Recommender Systems

Manoela Ilić · 2005

Many efforts have been made in rece nt times to improve collaborative filtering methods for calculating and forecasting the preferences of certain users in rating systems. Engaged by that development there have also been works on the founding elements of the CF filtering - the axiomatic basics. Mainly leaned on the paper by David M. Pennock and colleagues [1] I am going to show the axiomatic foundation mentioned by them and I will shortly reanalyze the necessity of the constrictions. In addition I will consider the similarity of the nearest-neighbor collaborative filtering principle to the case-based reasoning approach and finish this paper with an introduction to other developments and approaches to collaborative filtering using personalization and semantic domain knowledge.
