Abstract - In this paper, a simple neuro-fuzzy soft switching hybrid filter for removing impulse noise from digital images is proposed. The filter comprises a standard median filter, a fuzzy filter, an identity filter, and a neuro-fuzzy soft switching mechanism. Unlike other switching filters in the literature, the proposed filter's switching mechanism does not require any external parameters. Experiments indicate that the proposed filter exhibits superior performance over competing conventional as well as state-of-the-art impulse noise filters in the literature.
