Modernvehicles areincreasingly equipped withmore sensors whichareconnected tocontrol units through cables fortransmitting crucial real-time sensing data. Toreduce thecomplexity andcostbrought tothe automotive design andproduction bythesensor wiring harness, replacing cables withwireless links hasbeen proposed in[1]. Withits finecapability ofsolving multipathfading andinterference resilience, aswellasits freely available spectrum, theultra-wideband (UWB) technology isconsidered as a highly promising candidate forsuchintra-vehicle wireless network. For thepurpose ofevaluating UWB based sensor network, compared withwiredsystem, fromtheaspects of performance andreliability intransmitting automotive sensing data, anUWBcommunication testbed isneeded. Inthis paperwepresent ourfirst attempt inbuilding an intra-vehicle UWB wireless sensor network totransmit automotive speed data fromfourwheel speed sensors to theelectronic control unit(ECU)'. Assembly ofthe testbed consists ofABSmotorcontrol simulating system, wheelspeed sensors, UWB transmitting nodesandthe UWB network coordinator interfacing withECU.The paperalsoincludes thedescription ofthemaintestbed software modules andthereport ofinitial measurement result. Futuremeasurement planandfurther work needed toimprove thetestbed arediscussed inthe conclusion section.
