A Novel CallAdmission Control Scheme forthe

TheIEEE802.1le standard aimsatsupporting Quality ofService (QoS)forreal-time transmissions over WLANs andproposes thehybrid coordination function (HCF) thatconsists oftwochannel access methods: acontention-based channel access mechanism called enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA)andacontrolled channel access mechanism called HCF-controlled channel access (HCCA)(1). Although theHCF succeeds insupporting service differentiation, itdoesnot guarantee strict QoS,hencethecall admission control (CAC)is required. IntheIEEE802.11e standard, thecontention-based CAC andthecontrolled access CAC areproposed forEDCA and HCCA,respectively. In thispaper,we proposea novelCAC schemethat manipulates theCWmin parameterto enhancetheCAC performance inIEEE802.11e EDCA wherethepacket sizeis small. Thisscheme(1)guarantees average delay andthroughput, and(2)accepts asmanycalls (orrequests) aspossible atthesame time.
