Many applications of Fuzzy controllers have been successfully performed since Zadeh introduced the concept of fuzzy sets. They have been used to control ill defined or complex nonlinear systems. Despite the large interest induced by these applications, a large diffusion of such control structures has been prevented by the quite total absence of design and analysis st rat egi es. In this paper an automatic design strategy for fuzzy controllers is tested and the performances of the obtained controllers are compared vith the behaviors of the controllers proposed by an expert. Chaotic phenomena are investigated for the plants controlled vith the fuzzy controller, which represents a non linear device.
