Thispaperstudies thedesign ofcausal stable Farrow-based IIRvariable digital filters (VDFs), whosesubfilters haveacommondenominator. Thisstructure hastheadvantages ofreduced implementation complexity andavoiding undesirable transient response whentuning thespectral parameter inthe Farrowstructure. Thedesign ofsuchIIRVDFsisbasedonanew modelreduction technique whichisableto incorporate prescribed flatness andpeakerrorconstraints totheIIRVDF underthesecondorderconeprogramming framework. Design examples aregiventodemonstrate theeffectiveness ofthe proposed approach. Keywordscausal stable IIR,secondorderprogramming, variable digital filter.
