RUT - development handbook 3.16 Estimation of project size - according to COCOMO II v 3.0

Daniel Boijort · 2004

In a software development project it is important early to be able to esti- mate the projects size and how much time it will consume. To adjust the traditional COCOMO-81 method to todays software development envi- ronment, COCOMO II has been developed. The COCOMO II is one way to do such estimation based on number of lines of code or so called func- tion points. The COCOMO II method has many differences compared to the prior COCOMO 81 method and it is much more complex. It is espe- cially designed to estimate project size when 4GL (4th generation pro- gramming languge) languages and re-usable code is used. In a more traditional environment with for example the ADA language and small part of re-usable code COCOMO 81 is easier to use.
