cientific data visualization supports sciS entists as they explore data, look for patterns and relations, prove or disprove hypotheses, and discover new phenomena using graphical techniques. Although it has an important role in scientific data processing, visualization is still an art that requires significant knowledge in various fields, such as data management, computer graphics, perceptual psychology, and visual art. Most scientists whose work involves data visualization lack this wide-ranging knowledge. Furthermore, very few guidelines exist for selecting and creating effective visualization techniques. To facilitate visualization, users need systems that embody the required knowledge and guide them through the process. Generally speaking, the visualization process is a sequence of transformations that convert a data set into a displayable image:'
