A New Heart Sound Simulation Technique

Heart sounds dynamics can be associated with some cardiac events, like heart valves closures and opens, acceleration and deceleration of the blood mass and movements of the valves. Supposing these sounds are generated by natural frequencies of some heart cavities and valves, like the human voice, we can expect a successful heart sound modeling by methods currently applied in speech synthesis / analysis area. This paper presents a new heart sound simulation technique, based on a Linear Predictive Coding (LPC) algorithm. This is a parametric synthesis by analysis method, ordinarily applied to speech transmission, that models the signal as the output of an all-pole filter. A Multipulse Excitation algorithm performs the heart sound synthesis. These techniques pointed out to a relationship between the excitation function and some cardiac events.
