Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) comes under the domain of swarm intelligence which comes under evolutionary algorithm concepts. This ACO was been derived from the natural behavior of ant along with its colony. Its working nature, pheromone path laid by ants are the most common nature which were been discussed till now. In this paper keen knowledge about ACO has been given along with the application of ACO under several domains. A brief study of ACO and the research directions were been specified here.
