The design phase ofAutomatedManufacturing Systemscomprisesmany differenttasksand among them stands the designofa controlarchitecture.Actually forhighly distributed controlsystemsthe choice for a specific architecture has great impact on the overall system'slife cycle. In suchcasesthe designeris faced with lhe paradox of having to propose earlyenoughin Lhesystem'sdesign phase a control architecture which rnust fulfillfunctionalrequirementssuch as response time. This work presentsa frameworkfor validating distributed control architecturcsby modeling lhe system's distributedfeatureswith toolsfrom StructuredAnalysis and further 'translating'itsdynamicbehaviorinto TimedColored Petri Nets models for simulation.A case study is providedas an application in a didacticautomatedplatform.
