The First International Workshop on Concurrent Communication (ConCom 2009) focuses on the new networking paradigm that intends to revisit two assumptions about concurrency used in classical networking- pathway singularity and hop persistence. Classical architecture has been designed to support single pathway between two end-points. However, with the maturation of network topologies now invites increased parallelism in communication. Parallel communication can offer multi-faceted advantages such as order of magnitude increased throughput, increased reliability and/or improved resource utilization. Another design assumption of classical network is that all hops must be available concurrently to establish an end-to-end connectivity which we call hop-persistence. A number of research paradigms ranging from aero-space networks, ad-hoc networks, sensor networks now fundamentally struggling to overcome such non-intermittency. The first workshop of Concurrent Communication is aimed at bringing together researchers who are trying to develop new network technology- including architectural, protocol, and applications that explores and shares experiences and insights in the relaxation of these two classical notions of concurrency in networking.
