The OSS literature has largely ignored how new OSS projects can attract developers in order to sus-tain their vitality. Drawing upon first-impression-management research, we explore the potential role that the initial presentation of new OSS proj-ects plays in attracting developers. We provide pre-liminary findings from a pilot study including inter-views and an exploratory quantitative analysis.
