An Analogue to RNS Converter Based on RNS PropertiesI.2

The space vehicles will require more and more processing capabilities. This to obtain different advantages: device flexibility, better employment of the frequency spectrum, improving quality and reliability of transmission, preprocessing of the captured data, and so on. These advantages are obtained by implementing onboard complex algorithms. An advantageous realization of these algorithms can be obtained by using Residue Number System (RNS) arithmetic. The use of the RNS arithmetic requires a complex conversion from the binary representation to the RNS representation. This paper describes a new approach to this last problem. A direct Analog to RNS Converter (ARC) architecture is proposed. This architecture follows from a new further interpretation of the RNS: instead of an elaboration tool this arithmetic is viewed as a measurement tool. The principle used can be considered an RNS extension of the caliper rule. With respect to other realizations already published ( 1,2,3), also by the author and some co-workers (4), the new proposed architecture presents some advantages.
