Currently, major portion of the software is tested using a test case driven approach which focuses on “Does this check Pass or Fail” instead of “Is there a Problem here”. Also, this traditional approach increases the operational cost and is time consuming in a typical software development project. In the age of rapid application development (RAD), an approach such as exploratory testing adds value by identifying the areas where the product might fail when used in the real world. Exploratory testing is like playing a game of chess. A good chess player plays his next move depending on the opponent’s move and the stage of the game. Today, ET is defined by most researchers as an activity where a tester is exploring the software, learning its functionality and performing test execution on the basis of his/her intuition.
