Routeoptimization inMobileIPisbasedonthe assumption thatthedirect pathfromacorrespondent nodetoa mobile nodeismoreoptimal thantheindirect path.Theindirect pathgoesthroughthemobilenode's homeagent, sothe assumption seemsreasonable. However, weanalyze situations wherethedirect pathmayinfactbemoreoptimal thanthe indirect path.We thenpropose measurement-based approaches toroute optimization thataremorelikely toresult intheuseof thepathwithlower latency.
