Todaythereal-time measurement ofthedynamic powerfactor inresistance spotwelding isofincreasing importance. On thebasis ofthewelding transformer circuit model,a newmeasuring methodisproposed. Thismethod measures thepeakangleofthewelding current, andthen calculates thedynamicpowerfactor ineachhalf-wave. An artificial neural network istrained off-line andusedforonline computation ofthemodelparameter. Thetailored sensing and computing systemensuresthatthemethodpossesses a real-time computational capacity andsatisfying accuracy. A DSP-basedresistance spotweldingmonitoring systemis developed toperform ANN computation. Experimental results suggest thatthis measuring methodisfeasible.
