Periodogram isasimple andefficient waytodetect andestimate parameters ofsinusoidal signals. Inthispaper, we evaluate thedetection performance oftheperiodogram anditsvariants suchasBartlett, Welchmethods, anda proposedBartlett-based method.Performance evaluation through theReceiver Operating Characteristics (ROCs)ofthe mentioned methodsarepresented andcompared. Previous studies showedthat, thestandard periodogram usedtogive thebestdetection performance. In thepresentwork, analytical derivation andsimulation results showedthat, the proposedmethodgivesa betterdetection performance outperforming thestandard periodogram attheexpenseof tolerable reduction ofthefrequency resolution.
