This paper presents the application of wavelet proc essing in the domain of Tamil Vattezhutthu alphabet s recognition in Stone inscription. To attain high re cognition rate, robust feature extractors and power ful classifiers that are invariant to degree of variability of ston e inscriptions are needed. The proposed scheme consists of two stages: a feature extraction stage, which is based on Haar wavelet transform and a classification stag e that uses support vector machine classifier. Experimental res ults show that the proposed method is effective.
