Introduction to Session on the Biological Aspects of Copper Metabolism
Margaret E Elmes · Humana Press eBooks · 1982
In this session we aim to study the mode of action of copper and copper containing compounds on the actual mechanisms involved in inflammation both at the site of inflammation and in the rest of the body tissues. It is important to know as much as possible of the biochemistry involved as this is the type of research that leads to major breakthroughs in therapy. The role of free radicals and the effect of neutrophil superoxide dismutase has recently come to the attention of rheumatologists and a study in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and other arthritides such as presented in the first paper is of interest both to scientists and clinicians.
