Thepaper proposes ascalable video coding scheme forvision based subway platform monitoring system. Theproposed scheme isdesigned forproviding flexible video service amongvarious display environments, suchas displays oftotal traffic control, station employees andtrain driver andsoon.Theproposed scheme usesenhanced compatible coding scheme forpredicting P-andB-types ofpictures intheright-view sequence. Itpredicts matching block byinterpolating bothmotion anddisparity predicted macro-blocks. Toprovide flexible stereo video service, we define bothtemporally andspatially scalable layers foreacheyes-view byusing theconcept ofspatio-temporal scalability. Theexperimental results showtheefficiency ofproposed coding scheme bycomparison withalready known methods andtheadvantages ofdisparity estimation interms ofscalability overhead. According totheexperimental results, weexpect theproposed functionalities will playakeyrole inestablishing highly flexible stereo video service forubiquitous computing environment wheredevices andnetwork connections areheterogeneous.
